London Expo MCM 2009

I find October is never as good as May for costumes, must be more people willing to go in the summer as May normally has more people. However October is normally better for shopping as on Sunday everyone marks down their prices, and you can haggle on top of that whereas all of the May expo's I've been to haven't done the Sunday sale.

Although saying that a friend of mine said:

every expo does the sunday sale..if you stay to the very end..my friend brought sasukes grasscutter katana for £30 on the Saturday...they were flogging them for a tenner on Sunday

yeah ive found may always busier..especially on the Saturday, but thi one was NUTS! never seen so many at an october expo before lol

So maybe it's just because I vanish early so haven't seen the sale in May; figured it'd be the same as October where the prices are marked down from the doors opening at 10am. I shall have to wait around next May to get the sale.

 

Anyway, this October had more people than I remember being there last year. Sure there was the usual over abundance of Naruto and Bleach cosplays but there were a lot more lesser known ones as well, which is good.

I decided to go as a non anime/manga character for a change, and so I went as John Crichton from Farscape.
I was pretty shocked by the reaction, for the most part people didn't know who I was they just loved the outfit (someone even asked me where I'd bought the jacket, which was a massive ego boost as I'd made it). In fact the people running the stalls and helping run the event knew who I was meant to be far more often than any of the actual Expo goers. 

Guess this goes to show that there are more anime/manga fans there than the Sci-Fi fans.
Although we did get the usual Darth Vader and Storm Trooper group, I was surprised to see a Star Trek group there as well (I guess the new film has brought the fandom with it) - don't worry there wasn't a Trek/Wars debate or fight.
